In the video, designer Tim Brown discusses on the 3 behaviours we
learnt as kids that are important in coming up with creative ideas:
Exploration, Building and Role-play. He emphasizes on playfulness and compares
the mentality of adults and children, with adults being generally more
conservative and sensitive while children fear no embarrassment. I find this
especially true to majority of people. As children, we lack the experience of
failure and having fingers pointed at us. As we grow older, the accumulation of
judgements hinders us from doing as we wish. Hence, we tend to lean towards
what is popular than following our hearts. Brown also mentioned how play bonds
and builds trust between people. I believe it is because being playful requires
one to strip away the fear of being judged, as well as the tendency to judge
people. Knowing that the other person will not mock you for what you do, we
break down our emotion security walls and are more willing to accept others as
well. With our limitations removed, ideas would flow in more easily. In
summary, the mind of a child is the key to coming up with creative solutions.
